Renewable energies will play a central role in a sustainable future energy policy.
The simulation wind is used to find an optimal position of a wind turbine.
Orology, vegetation and buildings are transferred to the CFD model.
The simulations reach a high accuracy by utilising high resolution surface data including vegetation.

Espacially for small wind turbines the knowledge of local wind flow is essential.
Such a type of wind power plant has a reduced efficiency compared to large scale turbines.
This disadvantage should be minimised by an optimal position.
Therefore, in urban areas local amplifications of wind speed are used.

TWB has participated in the project Wind-Area and has conducted wind simulations successfully.
